Conditions Report

Conditions Report:

Only a few weeks left to learn lessons from the forest!

All trails are currently open, with a few areas where caution is advised. Wildlife is active — please hike and ride responsibly.

LAKE TRAIL: Open  ⚠️There have been a few sightings of a mama bear and her cubs in this area.  Keep your distance from any wildlife, keep dogs on a leash, and make lots of noise.  Take a two-minute walk down to the Beach and find some of the best views of the Three Bears peaks.

FIR TRAIL: Open The trail is in excellent shape and features a lush canopy — perfect for rainy day hikes. Check out the new reroute!

RAIL TRAIL: Open Well-maintained and ready to go. This is a popular area for moose, so stay alert and be wildlife aware.

LAZY LIZARD BIKING TRAIL:  Open   The trail is in good shape.  This is a two-way trail, so make noise to alert wildlife and fellow riders.

OLD GROWTH TRAIL:  Open This trail is in good shape and is a great hike on hot and rainy days because of its thick canopy.  TRAIL OF THE WEEK! Snap a photo at its “iconic photo spot #6”, tag @islandlakelodge in your post on Instagram & show your Bear Bistro server to receive a $27 Burger + Beer Deal!  We would be happy to honor the deal if you cut your hike short- just post a picture along the trail and tag us in the same way.

TAMARACK VIEWPOINT & SUMMIT:  Open  The trail is in good shape.  ⚠️ The final 300 meters (from Heiko’s Junction to the summit) follows a freshly grated dirt road with loose sediment — watch your footing.

BALDY LOOP: Open Trail is in great shape. For the best experience, we recommend starting at the Red Eagle Lodge trailhead.

SPINEBACK: Open ⚠️This area is a hotspot for moose, thanks to a nearby cold mineral spring. Stay alert and give wildlife plenty of space.

GOLDILOCKS LOOP (Via Spineback trail): Open Follow the blue spray paint dots.
⚠️ If you're scrambling, you're off the trail. Backtrack and find the markers.

BIG WHITE PEAK ROUTE (Via Spineback trail): ⚠️ For experienced adventurers only — this is a route, not a marked trail.  Expect route-finding and rock scrambling as you make your way to the summit.

CABIN ROUTE (Via OLD GROWTH TRAIL) and LIZARD LAKE ROUTE (Via RAIL TRAIL and Via GORBY): ⚠️ These routes are passable but expect overgrown sections. Proceed with caution.

HEIKO’S TRAIL: ⚠️ Expect fallen trees and overgrown sections.  ***🚗 Planning to park at our lot? Be sure to check our Operations Calendar to confirm the access road is open.***
